Centre for the Children’s Book,, Newcastle: The Little Boat

Newcastle 3

Renovations of a magical place, the Centre for the Children’s Book, opening again in July. The Centre is set in Ouseburn, a very individual  part of Newcastle upon Tyne – spent a wonderful day there with a friend of long-standing. Every time I go there is something new to see – an inexhaustible area of the city.

  1. I took our year 5 children here, it was a long journey but well worth the effort. They loved it and wished we could have stayed for longer.

    • Thank you for your comment, tralee – I very much like Ouseburn, and think it is a good place for the Centre for the Children’s Book. Elizabeth Hammill, together with others, worked tirelessly to get this project off the ground, and I think the result is magnificent. I hope you manage to take another group of children there, I would have loved to go there when I was young, it would have been a real treat. I wish one of the Universities in Newcastle did an MA in Children’s Literature, they would have a wonderful resource on their doorstep. I am looking forward to making another trip to the Centre when it reopens in July.

    • Thanks to you for commenting, Robin. Ouseburn rewards a wander round the place, there are a lot of artists’ studios there, they are apparently all open during one week or weekend, I haven’t found out yet. The Biscuit Factory is worth a visit, but there are all kinds of very different projects in the area, not just studios – Ouseburn is well worth mooching around for a while. Hope you get to visit and enjoy yourself.
