The Flight of the Heron

“Flight of the Heron” by D.K.Broster was a book I was in love with when I was young – not a child’s book.  My mother said she read it when young also, and then when she read it again she realised it was a love story between two men.  I never realised this, I have not read it since I was about 10.  I had a crush on Bonny Prince Charlie too, until I was taken to the Castle and saw a pair of his moth-eaten trews in a cabinet, which didn’t suit me at all.  All the same, I never thought I would come to live in Scotland, right on the border with England, and see every day the heron fly from one country to the other.
