A Bend in the River

I was away for a few days and when I got back the irises were as high as I am, and in full flower, having suddenly shot up out of the green pond.

I was watching a young heron beside River Tweed, when I noticed this older heron up in the tree, definitely keeping watch on its offspring down below.
