Pond Iris

iris

I was away for a few days and when I got back the irises were as high as I am, and in full flower, having suddenly shot up out of the green pond.

May Pond 2

pond

The sparrows love this pond, they flutter about in it, wetting their wings, but as soon as the door is opened they all fly up into the jasmine bush, then away in the direction of the birdtable.  The pond was relined last year, but still has a leak, so the water level is still below the black plastic. However, the plants that were put back are growing again, and maybe we will have some lily-flowers this year. I like the May colours. Now I’m off travelling over the weekend….

Tony’s Pond: Waterlily Bud

tony's pond

After the flaxen river grass and the brown of the ploughed earth and the ochre-gold of the hay bales and the white and black of the crows and the gulls following in the wake of the machines, this is  a small wet area of Green. The weather has turned cold, so we are hoping for the best for this late lily.
