aconiteAconite that I nearly trod on.  Next week there will be thousands underfoot, those distinctive leaves shining in a green tangled mass – but for the moment, I saw just this one, down by the river, amng the dead leaves.

Down by the Riverside: Aconite 1

Aconite 1

Walking along River Tweed towards Lennel, see the first Spring flowers growing up amid the winter stalks. The farmer’s electrified fence is down and clotted with heaps of river detritus, and rags of different colours flap in the river bushes.  A gate, torn from its moorings, has been thrown on to one of the small islands along the edge of the Tweed. Spring is coming, the sky is blue, the rooks are cawing above the tall trees at the entrance to the wood.
