    • Swans everywhere at the moment – an acquaintance said he counted 100 at Tweedmouth, in the Tweed estuary. I’ve seen nearly that number swimming in a flock upriver here, 14 miles upstream. Wonder whether they are the same swans on the move….birds are mysterious. I saw a siskin on the bird table last week, they are only seen in Scotland during the summer (and we’re 100 yards from Englad here). I go my whole life without seeing a siskin, and then on the same day I catch sight of a deep brown hedgehog crawling about in the fallen leaves, something I haven’t seen for years. Far more insects about this year, maybe that has something to do with it.

      • It does seem mysterious Cara, very interesting to see the Siskin but hte swans moving – wonder what they are seeking or is it because of the temperatures? Here in No. TX we have quite a few wild hogs – they are very destructive to the fields and private property. They grow to be quite large too.
