    • Thank you, Wendy. I put up this year’s Coldstream card on my website for about 10 minutes, but then thought this image was more fitting; so it is lovely to get such a response. Merry Christmas.

  3. Voice from the past wishing you a very merry new year, yes so whimsical! Was looking up Langley Castle on map and realised it was near where your family lived. So put your name into Google and up came this which is fun.

We shared a flat , I think Lansdowne Road, Bayswater area near Portobello Road, many moons ago, very early 70s.=. I’m living in HItchin now and just done a water colour impression of the proposed Garden Bridge over the Thames. Happily with new partner, divorced from Tony, the technical illustrator 5 years ago now though we keep in touch. Our son, Tim Matthews photography now in Spain but back often for photographic commissions too, professional photographer – let us know if you know any contacts for photo shoots etc. Daisy lives locally here in Hertfordshire.

Have your 1st poetry book in pride of place in sitting room here! Happy days!

Prillie Matthews x (you also knew Mal – I think you were at college with him,who was at one stage with my 1st cousin Chris Plumbly)

    • How amazing to hear from you. Prillie. How nice of you to contact me, and I wish you a very Happy New Year too. Good to hear about your family, and also to hear about you producing a water colour of the proposed Garden Bridge. From the sketches I have seen, it sounds like such a beautiful idea. So long ago, that flat in Landsdowne Road, and somewhat mad days I spent trawling Portobello Road. I’ve lived in the North since 1975, first in Cumbria, then Sunderland (where I did manage to finish a degree!), then Berwick upon Tweed. I met my second husband whilst running a stall selling books and cards at the Farmers’ Market there, and now live in Coldstream, right on the Scottish Borders. Tony lent me his camera, and I started taking photographs of this part of the Borders, then my son and his family gave me a camera for Christmas. I’ve encountered all kinds of interesting people through the website. However, in the New Year I am going buckle down and work on the illustrations to a picture book story I have written. I paint in the studio Tony built me in the vegetable garden, known as The Tardis because of its hidden spaces not seen from the front. My son and his wife and three grandsons live in HUddersfield, which is not so far away. Touching that you still have a copy of “Riding to Canonbie”. I enjoyed working on the pictures for that book when I was up in Cumbria. Yes, a long time ago, but hey ho – thank you again for writing, it was good to hear from you, Prillie, best wishes to you and to your family. Cara x
