Sunflower

Sunflower1

Bird seed must have drifted into a nearby bed, as this solitary sunflower has grown up  among the beans. I have fallen for this sunflower.  I can’t stop looking at it in all its amazing, stalwart and delicate detail.  There will be more sunflowers on this blog over the next few weeks. Day by day the crunched leaves open to let out this dazzling yellow, just when most other flowers are losing their bloom.  This is one tough-looking sunflower.

Red Admiral 2

Red Admiral

Lots of butterflies on The Net (though butterfly nets themselves have an Edwardian aura) – but all this summer I have wanted to capture on camera a red admiral with its wings outstretched. It is now the edge of autumn, pace blue skies and balmy September weather.  So on this last remaining budding buddleia, here was an obliging red admiral. October 1st today. I don’t suppose I shall see many more butterflies this year.
