Looking Through Thorns to the Pool

The Pool

I have taken pictures of this pool when the sun is setting, and during the autumn when bright leaves shine on its surface above the cloudy water.  This is an unofficial pool where water drains off the banks. Looking through the thorn hedge at the pool, as I go on my way down to the Tweed, the water shines blue-indigo, and the rusted barbed wire adds another layers of thorns.

Tree Bud in the Little Wood

Bud

Always liked those photographs were there is focus in the foreground and then this softening background – think that it goes with my liking of layers in paintings.  I can get this effect with the new camera, if I remember which buttons to press. Anyway, on a sunlit afternoon I walk through the little wood in the Hirsel, between the golf  course and the road, and see spring beginning.

Leet Water: The Weir

weir

The Weir

Out walking I pause on the bridge and look down at the water of the Leet that has for weeks been maundering brown and sluggish towards where it spills out into the Tweed, but today sparkles under the blue sky, and is once more full of bubbles and reflections and visible depths.

Looking Down Into River Leet

patterns

It was a sunny March day, with a white and blue sky, and I took this photograph just as I climbed the little path sticky with mud  that leads up into the wide expanse of The Lees.  There is an ambiguity that appeals to me in this mingling of reflections, water, trees, small islands and wintered plants.
